At least 50 civilians were killed and more than 60 others were injured in a suicide attack in southern Paktika province on Sunday, local officials said.
The attack took place about at 5 p.m. when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive on a volleyball ground in Yahya Khel district of the province, a spokesman for the Paktika Governor, Mukhlis Afghan, said.
The explosion took place during a volleyball match and officials of the Paktika hospital have said that majority of victims were children.
The police have started investigations about the attack.
Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani in a statement on Sunday condemned the attack, ordering the concerned authorities to provide best medical treatment for the wounded in the province bordering Pakistan.
No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
